A Life Without Negative Emotions
What is the culprit of self-hatred?
Long has this question bothered me. It is a thorn in the side of the anxious ones who care too much.
It is not the case that people want to have negative emotions. It is also not the case that they aren’t trying to stop having them.
There is a deep and alienating stigma towards people with low self-esteem. They will say something disconfirming about themselves, and suddenly that gives everybody license to bully them for being honest.
Is it wrong to be honest about our vulnerability and pain?
The world has many faces. I know some people very well and some people know me very well, but usually, there is a sort of strange rift between me and others. It is tough to bear. Nevertheless, being human in itself is tough to bear, so it can’t be right to criticize that fact. That’s like complaining about being weaker and less successful… what will it achieve?
We are self-interested even when trying our best to be kind. If you’re not self-interested, you’re probably a Buddha.
The apprehension we have about our place in the world is illogical, as it stems from mental conceptions. Are we not able to defy our mind through courageous and virtuous acts? Are we not able to stop listening to ourselves?
That inner voice is simultaneously kind and harsh, so be careful.
The curse of the modern day is that we feel the need to struggle and compete with EVERYONE, even from a young age. The virtue of working hard becomes the virtue of not wanting to die. This does not mean that we have to accept this unhappy reality. Reality is still in ourselves first.
Beholden to the virtue of common sense, anyone can see when they are being strong or weak. If someone begins crushing it in everything, they gain status in THEIR OWN MIND!
Suddenly, we realize that we’re are thrust into a civil war with ourselves, and there is no other opponent. It doesn’t matter if I lose to a 1200 or a 2400, because ultimately I lost to myself.
Beholden to virtue, we must pursue the path of not losing to ourselves. There is a crisis of selfhood, all of which is in our battle with constant change. Things never wait for us, and that’s really the problem.
Suddenly, we realize that we must seize the day before it seizes us!
Thank you.
