Being Thankful
Today, I wish to express a desire for more positive thoughts.
The idea of thankfulness, or gratitude, mainly resides in non-egoic appreciation. It is pure and heartfelt, and is quite similar to the state of being humble. I think that we must try to be thankful every day.
The best kind of thankfulness, in my opinion, is the kind that is expressed towards everything and everyone. I often presuppose a Oneness in everything, a collective unity — this helps me think of myself as part of something, and not just a disconnected person.
The darkness of a disconnected world is illuminated by thankful, kind-hearted people, who find hope in humanity every single day.
If one can be thankful for the sun rising every morning, the food and drinks they consume throughout a day, and the kinds of experiences they have with others, then one is already doing better for themselves.
There is the wonderment of poetry, art and music, which exists in so many iterations and forms, and can soothe the thankless heart; there is exercise and sport, which conditions the mind and body and becomes beautiful after some dedication to it; there is philosophy, the pursuit of wisdom and happiness, which is still meaningful after thousands of years.
If I can be thankful for these magnificent things, I am already making an effort. I could fall into the thankless trap and resent the world, but that would hurt myself and others. Furthermore, I must give reality a chance every day — if I am thankless, I am throwing my chance away.
The need to be thankful cannot be reserved for holidays. We must try to be thankful whenever we can, even in times of extreme hardship. I understand that the world is in a state of crisis right now — in fact, that is what has motivated me to write this particular article. I am calling for peace and genuine appreciation. We must make compassion popular again, and oppose the thankless demonization of people, ideas, and things.
We see whatever we wish to see. The person who looks at their life closely, however, can begin to take in life with equanimous thankfulness. If we can think about the good and the bad equally, we can be thankful for everything. It’s good that we have a lifetime to ponder it over.
Thank you!
