Some Thoughts About Life
I have spent a long time trying to answer unanswerable questions. Something is urging me to stop this sorry search for meaning, and just appreciate the fact that I’m alive and well in such a crazy time. After all, this is the only time we’ve got.
I cannot create the beauty of the above picture. I am only able to bear witness to it. There is nothing a person can do to match the unparalleled grandeur of Nature. It is beautiful enough that we can participate in capturing it and preserving it for all eternity. I am led to believe that we must always follow in Nature’s path, since its creative force is the most irrefutable.
People are being systematically abstracted from themselves, mostly through the inability to enjoy life. A chronic problem seems to be that, by living through the mind, we cannot truly feel that fundamental goodness of simply being alive. It would seem that life owes its beauty to the spirit, the will, since that is our impetus of non-hesitant action. A person cannot hope to do anything if they merely watch their life pass them by — it is happening regardless!
A lot of self-contemplation is necessary if we hope to change the direction of our temperament. It seems almost comical when iterations of the same theme seem to affect us again and again, reminding us that everything is a reflection of what we willingly put into the world. We must always be careful about how our temperament leads us to outcomes. A lot of tragedy could be prevented if we don’t throw ourselves into every problem.
Heroes used to be a much more important archetype. They signify a spiritual resistance to weakness and nihilism. The real heroes of our times are the ones who fight to protect others, people who strive to etch their hearts in the tragic human story. These people rarely concern themselves with anything but their moral mission, their quest for truth. Such people will keep civilization alive, not those who take for themselves.
If we survive all the conflicts going on in the world, I will declare that there is in fact a God. Then, I shall pray every day, and work to help those who want to save society from itself. I have faith that we will come out of this, and if we will, there is nothing to take for granted — true miracles only come once a lifetime, I think. Blessed be those who care.
Thank you.
