You definitely captured the feeling well. It happened to my mom with her narcissistic, emotionally abusive ex-husband, my father. It also happened to me, with many utterly indifferent friends who decided to throw me away. Hopefully more people will realize that this feeling of helplessness can only be rectified by them.
